The “Toma Caragiu” Theatre opens the new year with a series of performances bringing back to the stage the energy, humour and beauty of dramaturgy – classical or contemporary, Romanian or international. The audience is invited to discover stories full of verve, comic tension and unpredictable situations, while the little ones will be able to enjoy a show from which they will learn that kindness and courage always receive their due reward.

GÂLCEVILE DIN CHIOGGIA – Friday, 9 January, 18:30, “Toma Caragiu” Theatre hall

“It is the amusing and colourful story of the quarrels between two groups of fishermen from the small town of Chioggia, on the Adriatic shore, in the Venetian lagoon. Amorous intrigues, love stories lived with passion and intensity, as only Italians know how, all sorts of complications. (…) Although written in another era, Goldoni’s play has lost neither its charm nor its topicality, accurately rendering the squabbles, the impetuous passions, the intrigues, the humour of an unspoiled, simple environment, in which everything ends well.” (Raluca Tulbure, “Teatrul azi” magazine)

ACASĂ LA TATA – Saturday, 10 January, 18:30, “Toma Caragiu” Theatre hall

“Acasă la tata” captures, with delicacy and sincerity, everyday life, swinging continuously between appearance and essence. Behind the ordinary gestures and the routine that seems to flow uniformly there hides, in fact, a sometimes bitter reality, peppered with playful accents. The characters are souls wandering in a world that seems to have lost its direction, each searching, in their own way, for a benchmark, an anchor, a reason to confirm that their journey is not in vain. Marked by unfulfilment, but still animated by hope, they try to break free from the ordinariness surrounding them, the monotony that levels their dreams and the stagnation that threatens their identity, guided by the deep desire to find a place where they can truly feel “at home”.

GAIȚELE – Sunday, 11 January, 18:30, “Toma Caragiu” Theatre hall

A bittersweet x-ray that captures, with sarcasm and lucidity, the moral degradation of a world unable to keep up with change. The performance swings between comic and dramatic, bringing to the fore a family ravaged by vanities, gossip and small everyday meannesses, but also a love triangle in which the characters constantly seek love without managing to live it fully. This performance is Sold Out.

FATA MOȘULUI ȘI FATA BABEI – Sunday, 11 January, 11:00, Imaginario Animation Theatre hall

The stage adaptation of one of Ion Creangă’s most beloved tales, “Fata moșului și fata babei”, brings back to the audience the charm of the traditional Romanian fairy tale. Through the two main antagonistic characters, the show speaks, with sensitivity and humour, of patience, kindness and generosity – values that, in the world of stories and in everyday life, never go unrewarded. At the same time, the production demonstrates that, no matter how many trials may appear along the way, good always wins, and truth and purity of soul are what endure. Tickets are available at the “Toma Caragiu” Theatre Box Office in Ploiești, telephone 0244.522.774, or online, by accessing the Performance schedule section on the website www.teatruploiesti.ro.
