The Ploiești Municipality is implementing two important projects, financed with European funds, intended to transform the central urban space into a modern and friendly environment for the people of Ploiești

  • The project “Pedestrianisation and controlled traffic in the central area, including bicycle lanes on priority routes from the Mobility Plan, bike-sharing points, green areas, rest areas, performance area, commercial area for events, ornamental lighting, wi-fi, including equipment and fittings – Urban Mobility Component” was submitted last year for funding under the South Muntenia Regional Programme 2021-2027.

The total value of this project is 56,218,024.57 lei, of which non-reimbursable financing amounts to 42,682,549.34 lei, and the Municipality of Ploiești’s own contribution is  13,535,475.23 lei.

The interventions proposed by this project:

  • Reconfiguring and redistributing space, by reducing the car lane, expanding and rehabilitating sidewalks, creating green areas and bicycle lanes;
  • Modernising the road infrastructure and urban elements, by repairing the roadway and sidewalks (cracks, bumps, fissures), uniformising pavements, modernising the lighting system (including ornamental lighting) and updating utility networks;
  • Facilities for alternative transport and accessibility, by introducing bike-sharing stations, arranging bicycle lanes;
  • Regulating parking and eliminating vehicle congestion, by implementing strict regulations regarding street parking or by promoting underground parking, in order to free up pedestrian space.

By implementing this project, the estimated quantity of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions will be reduced, 19,648.89 sqm of pedestrian/semi-pedestrian areas will be built/modernised/extended, 10 bike-sharing stations will be built and bicycle lanes will be created.  

  • The project „Pedestrianisation and controlled traffic in the central area, including bicycle lanes on priority routes from the Mobility Plan, bike-sharing points, green areas, rest areas, performance area, commercial area for events, ornamental lighting, wi-fi, including equipment and fittings – Urban Regeneration Component” was submitted last year for funding under the South Muntenia Regional Programme 2021-2027.

The total value of this project is 65,645,975.30 lei, of which non-reimbursable financing amounts to 35,807,180.33 lei, and the Municipality of Ploiești’s own contribution is  29,838,794.97 lei.

The project will contribute to increasing the green space area in the central area, reducing GHG emissions, redefining the public space in a more equitable manner.

The interventions proposed under this project:

• Modernising and rehabilitating the infrastructure – rebuilding sidewalks, roadways and pedestrian alleys, as well as updating the lighting systems (by using LED technologies and tele-management);

• Reconfiguring the public space – extending pedestrian areas, integrating bicycle lanes and arranging green spaces with urban furniture elements (alcoves, benches, pergolas);

• Optimising utility networks – modernising drainage systems and utility networks, which will ensure efficient management of rainwater and the long-term maintenance of the public space.

The documentation for these projects is in the process of being published in the Electronic Public Procurement System (SEAP), with the procedure to be officially listed for the execution of works in approximately two weeks.
