The 15th of January is an opportunity to celebrate not only the prominent personality and work of Romania’s national poet, Mihai Eminescu, but also a moment for reflection on Romanian culture as a whole, on the values, creations and reference points that define our identity. On this occasion, the “Toma Caragiu” Theatre invites the public to attend a series of events dedicated to National Culture Day, gathered in a special programme that brings to the fore Romanian literature and its artistic echoes.

From 17:00, in the main foyer of the “Toma Caragiu” Theatre, there will be a performance of the play “Moara cu noroc”, a stage adaptation by Marius Gilea after Ioan Slavici’s novella, directed by Florin Liță. The stage adaptation offers an excursion into the dramatic universe of one of the most important Romanian prose writers, highlighting fundamental themes of human existence, such as destiny, morality and inner conflict.

The evening will continue, from 19:30, in the hall of the “Toma Caragiu” Theatre, with the screening of the film “Moromeții 3”. The third part of the saga of the Moromete family is set in 1954 and centres on the youngest son of Ilie Moromete, Niculae, in a period marked by personal and professional turmoil: a tumultuous love affair with a married woman, a deep crisis of political conscience and a loss of faith in the literary community. The providential appearance of a young female poet, however, offers him a new perspective, inspiring him to rediscover his vocation and to publish the novel “Moromeții”. The screening will benefit from the presence of the film’s director, Stere Gulea.

The tickets, priced at 30 lei, can be purchased from the Theatre’s Box Office or online, by accessing the following link – https://www.entertix.ro/events/34375/proiectie-film-morometii-3-15-january-2026-teatrul-toma-caragiu-ploiesti.html

Through these artistic landmarks, two authors who have shaped Romanian literature, Ioan Slavici and Marin Preda, are brought before the public, alongside representative works, presented in theatrical and cinematic form respectively. The undertaking aims not only to pay tribute to the national cultural heritage, but also to present to generations of audiences fundamental aspects of human life and destiny, and historical moments that have influenced the evolution of Romanian culture and society.

Also, in the foyer of the institution, an exhibition will be open to the public bringing together snapshots from the life and artistic activity of Toma Caragiu, a personality who marked the evolution of Ploiești theatre and who became a symbol of passion for the stage, of subtle humour and of truth spoken with grace. We look forward to having you with us on this day of profound significance, so that, together, we may pay tribute to the creativity, diversity, spirit and enduring principles that characterise and give meaning to our cultural heritage.
