The mayor of the Municipality of Ploiești, Mihai Polițeanu, today held a press conference to announce to the local community that the European Investment Bank has confirmed the decision to finance the project proposed by the Ploiești municipality for the purchase of 20 new trams.

The European Investment Bank has decided to provide the reimbursable financing portion of 36 million euro.

It should be recalled that Ploiești City Hall also applied for a 9 million euro grant from the European Commission, which has already announced that it will award these non-reimbursable funds.

The municipality will carry out, in the coming period, the contracting and signing procedures of the financing instrument. The procurement procedure for the new trams, by tender with a suspensive clause, is nearing completion and is to be finalised by the end of May.

According to the contractual deadlines, the Municipality of Ploiești will benefit from the new tram fleet in 2027.

The 20 new trams will be modern and efficient, adapted to access for persons with reduced mobility, equipped with air conditioning and electronic display, comfortable and environmentally friendly, set to provide passengers with a quality and safe public service.

Through this financing, the modernisation of the tram depot will also be ensured.

Mayor Mihai Polițeanu publicly thanked, for the success of this project, first of all the citizens directly involved in supporting this important purchase, as well as local political leaders and municipality employees.

Furthermore, the chief mayor of the Municipality of Ploiești specified that, in the future, the Ploiești public administration has several plans for modernising the urban public transport service, with a view to ensuring the complete modernisation of the local operator’s fleet that serves the Ploiești community.
