An Elgar evening at the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic in Ploiești, on the occasion of the last event of January – an extraordinary concert that brings back to the Ploiești stage, alongside the Symphony Orchestra of the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic in Ploiești, conductor Radu Zaharia and violist Răzvan Popovici, two highly talented musicians who are well respected by audiences and critics alike, with numerous appearances on national and international stages.

On Thursday, 29 January 2026, you will be able to hear two of the most representative and fascinating works by Edward Elgar: the “Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in E minor”, op. 85, and the “Enigma Variations”, pages that capture his unmistakable style. Of Elgar’s music, the American writer and editor David Ewen said: “It is dominated by beauty, the charm of lyricism, the distinction of form, the robustness of orchestration; together with poetry and mysticism, his pages delight the ear. It is music that bears the same attributes as the man who wrote it: gentle, brilliant, witty, sentimental and cultivated.”

Considered one of the most sensitive and introspective scores of the early 20th century, the “Cello Concerto” combines lyricism with dramatic accents, building a profound and original musical discourse. The “Enigma Variations” will close the evening in a striking and spectacular fashion, full of colour, contrast and mystery.

It promises to be a special evening, doesn’t it?
