Semi-automatic defibrillators in Ploiești public spaces

The City Hall of the Municipality of Ploiești has installed 6 semi-automatic defibrillators in the city’s public spaces, as part of a partnership with the Rompetrol Group, the equipment contributing to strengthening the rapid emergency intervention network at local level.

The semi-automatic defibrillators are intended for use by all persons, including those without medical training and are installed in heavily trafficked public areas.

The presence of this medical equipment is important in case a person is in cardiorespiratory arrest, the chances of survival increasing significantly when nearby citizens intervene rapidly.

It is the responsibility of each one of us to provide first aid by performing resuscitation manoeuvres and, where available, by using a defibrillator until the arrival of emergency medical teams.

A semi-automatic defibrillator is a portable medical device, which analyzes the electrical activity of the heart and indicates to the user whether an electric shock is needed in order to restore the normal cardiac rhythm. The citizens around the affected person are often the first who can intervene, before the arrival of medical teams.

The locations where defibrillators are installed in the Municipality of Ploiești are the following:

· Ploiești Municipality City Hall – Piața Eroilor no. 1 A;

· “Olimpia” Sports Hall – 18 Mareșal Averescu Street;

· Malu Roșu Market – Aleea Profesorilor;

· Nord Market – Aleea Arinului;

· “Sfântul Vasile” Secondary School – 159A Republicii Boulevard;

· Ploiești West Municipal Park – 285 Mărășești Street.

In Ploiești, the Rompetrol Group operates the Vega Refinery, the longest-running unit of its kind in Romania, with 120 years of experience, a refinery that has evolved from a classic unit, focused on crude oil processing, into a producer and supplier of special, value-added products, obtained exclusively from semi-finished materials supplied by the Petromidia refinery. At the same time, Rompetrol has a significant presence in the downstream sector as well, with eight fuel distribution stations in Prahova County.

The presence of these defibrillators in public spaces represents a vital resource, and the involvement of each one of us can make the difference between life and death.
