Mrs. Lucia Cerghizan is a war veteran and was born on 18 June 1928, in the Buzău area. She was celebrated by the municipality during the day, the venerable Ploiești resident being offered a celebration cake and a bouquet of flowers, as a sign of respect and gratitude for a life marked by courage, solidarity and devotion to her fellow citizens.

Mrs. Lucia Cerghizan was a nurse with the Red Cross, being one of the frontline fighters during the Second World War.

Although she was only 13 years old, she was actively involved in supporting the wounded and those in suffering, working within the medical structures organised under the auspices of the Red Cross, during the difficult period of the conflict.

Through devotion and competence, Mrs. Lucia Cerghizan became the right hand of the commander, helping him with the medical interventions carried out continuously, as a result of the bombings that took place by land and by sea.

Throughout her life, the venerable lady had 10 siblings. At present, only she and her older sister, who guided her steps to the Red Cross, are still alive.

Having graduated from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Mrs. Lucia Cerghizan was assigned to Ploiești, where she has lived since 1953.

Over time, the remarkable Ploiești resident, war veteran, was decorated for her exemplary deeds by King Mihai I and the Presidential Administration of Romania.

Through the devotion and heroism shown since childhood, Mrs. Lucia Cerghizan is, for us, a living example of humanity, solidarity and spirit of sacrifice.

With sincerity and admiration, we wish Mrs. Lucia Cerghizan good health, peace and serenity, and we thank her for the courage and altruism she has shown!
