Strategic meeting in Ploiești for the development of local sports infrastructure

The Municipality of Ploiești recently hosted a particularly important working meeting, focused on shaping a strategy for the development of our city’s sports infrastructure and, by extension, that of the county.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Agency for Sport, the General Secretariat of the Government, the Prahova County Council and Ploiești City Hall.

The main purpose of the meeting was to analyse opportunities for administrative reorganisation and applied, strategically shaped investments, with a view to modernising and consolidating the sports infrastructure of our municipality and county.

The discussions were attended by:

· Mihai Poliţeanu, Mayor of Ploiești;

· Virgiliu Daniel Nanu, President of the Prahova County Council;

· Ștefan Radu Oprea, Secretary General of the Government, with ministerial rank;

· Bogdan Matei, President of the National Agency for Sport;

· Lucian Rădulescu, President of the Ploiești Municipal Sports Club.

Among the main topics addressed were:

the process of administrative reorganisation at the level of sports institutions, in the context of reconfiguring the former Ministry of Youth and Sports;
modernising the sports infrastructure of Prahova County and identifying new sources of funding for investments;
bringing major gymnastics competitions back to Ploiești, in the perspective of 2026 – “The Nadia Comăneci Year”, marking 50 years since the first “perfect 10” in the history of world sport.

The decision-makers present at this meeting agreed on the need to strengthen the partnership between the local administration, the county administration and the central authorities, with the aim of turning Prahova into a true national sports hub – a county where performance, education and investment in sport mutually support each other.

In the coming period, an inter-institutional working group will be set up, which will draft a strategic action plan for the period 2025–2026.

This will include setting clear investment priorities, as well as a calendar of major sports competitions and events, with a focus on gymnastics and Olympic sports.
