About
A bittersweet snapshot of a world which, unable to adapt to new realities, takes refuge in clichés and outdated habits, the play „Gaițele” (The Magpies) captures, with sharpness and sarcasm, the agony of a social universe dominated by the rigidity of conventions and the instinct to preserve privileges.
„Gaițele” remains a lucid and painfully topical satire, sketching a portrait of human pettiness hidden behind social masks and the inability to evolve.
The Duduleanu family is the very example of this society adrift, defined by the obsession with wealth and attachment to an outdated social order. Beneath the appearance of trivial concerns lies a world suffocated by envy, resentment and meanness.
At the centre of this universe reigns Aneta Duduleanu, who imposes the rhythm and rules of a microcosm where resentment and intrigue replace vitality. Although confronted with a dramatic event, this does not bring about a major change in the family dynamic but, on the contrary, highlights their constant thirst for control and the superficiality with which they treat any situation, life proceeding almost imperturbably on its course, with nothing truly changing.
