General objective of the project:

The general objective of the project is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by road traffic in the Municipality of Ploiești.

The general objective can be achieved by realising the following specific objectives:

SO 1 Improving the efficiency and quality of public passenger transport by arranging and reconfiguring the Piața 1 Decembrie 1918 and Gara de Vest areas.

SO 2 Creating appropriate conditions for the safe use of non-motorised modes of transport by building cycle paths, bicycle parking, pavements, road markings, and signs.

SO 3 Extending the traffic management system by implementing real-time passenger information systems and modernising passenger waiting stations in the Piața 1 Decembrie 1918 and Gara de Vest areas.

The works include urban arrangements (street furniture, cycle paths, pavements, Braille panels), parking (including for persons with disabilities), intelligent traffic lights, road surface modernisation, water and sewerage networks, LED public lighting, automated irrigation systems, and green areas with climate-adapted vegetation.

  • Gara de Vest area: A modern intermodal hub is proposed, with a signalled roundabout, cycle paths, a bike-sharing zone, road signage, LED lighting, modernised utility networks, and climate-adapted landscaping.
  • Waiting Station Building – Gara de Sud: The building, with functions such as a waiting room, sanitary facilities, mother-and-child room, offices, and technical spaces, contributes to passenger comfort and supports collective mobility. It is designed for low fire risk, energy efficiency, and structural durability. Measures are provided for pedestrian safety (raised crossings, fences, traffic lights with audible signalling, tactile markings), efficient lighting, and universal accessibility. Environmental protection is ensured through non-invasive works, modernised utility networks, adapted plant species, automated irrigation, the reduction of the heat island effect, and prioritisation of electric transport.

          Expected results:

  • Estimated annual reduction of CO₂ emissions: 3,038 tonnes in the first year of operation (15.14%) and 6,958 tonnes in 2042 (20.84%);
  • Annual increase in the number of public transport passengers: +440,856 in the first year (5.97%) and +1,052,869 in 2042 (12.61%);
  • Increase in the number of users of cycle routes: +3,783 persons in the first year (3.14%) and +104,663 in 2042 (48.31%);
  • Reduction in the average daily number of cars: -9.23% of km/year, without transferring pressure to other urban areas.
  • Start date: 12-2025
  • End date: 09-2027
