"Republica de sub Castani" 2026 returns with new events

The Ploiești Municipality is organising a new edition of the marathon event “Republica de sub Castani”, which will take place during the summer season, on the famous Bulevardul Independenței artery, also known to Ploiești residents as Bulevardul Castanilor (Chestnut Boulevard).

“Republica de sub Castani” thus becomes a vibrant meeting place for all Ploiești residents, focused on culture, relaxation and good energy.

Following the success of the first edition of this mega-event, the Ploiești municipality has decided to continue this project, unprecedented in the recent history of Ploiești.

The current edition will include a series of attractive weekend events, designed for all age groups, organised at reduced costs, but with a direct impact on the positive promotion of our city at both local and national level.

The Ploiești public administration’s project moves forward, strengthened by the experience gained!

Thus, the current edition of the “Republica de sub Castani” event will bring comfort to the patients of the Paediatrics Hospital, with the area of the boulevard adjacent to this medical unit to remain free, without terraces or activities that would cause acoustic disturbance.

The event has been redesigned, taking into account the two upcoming regulations focused on transforming the urban centre into a coherent and attractive public space, on which representatives of the Ploiești Municipality are already working together with specialists appreciated and recognised at national or international level: the Urban Aesthetics Regulation – central area and Bulevardul Independenței, and the HORECA and Public Catering Regulation in the central area of the Ploiești municipality.

These upcoming urban regulations will also include a case study on “Republica de sub Castani“, including design/regulation for unitary urban furniture integrated into the landscape.

During the transition period, until the new urban regulations come into force in 2027, at the current edition of the event permanent kiosks will no longer be allowed, and public catering activities will be carried out exclusively through food trucks, which will be present on the boulevard only at the weekend.

There will be two weekends with a main stage and an extensive programme: “Zilele Republicii” (Days of the Republic) and “Republica Rock“.

Otherwise, the programme of the event will focus on cultural, sporting and community activities: classical music, jazz, sport, as well as events dedicated to various groups in the city (children, seniors, persons with disabilities, NGOs, ethnic minorities).

Preliminary calendar of the “Republica de sub Castani” event, 2026 edition:

Republic of children, big and small: street theatre for children, dance troupes, sport with the children’s teams of the Ploiești Municipal Sports Club, street artists, concerts by children from the school of arts.
Classical under the Chestnuts: weekend dedicated to classical music, music workshops for children, piano, accordion, clarinet concerts.
Together Anew: weekend dedicated to persons with disabilities, workshops by NGOs in the field, small music and dance performances by persons with disabilities.
Ploiești Street Fest: weekend of street art, local and international street artists.
Republica Rock: motorbike parade, charity actions, rock concerts.
Sport Arena Street Ball: 3×3 streetball championship, basketball, football, volleyball, pickleball courts, recreational competitions for children and families.
Anatolian Turkish Fest: weekend dedicated to the Turkish community, organised by the Turkish community – traditions, food, folk dances.
Zilele Republicii: Days of Ploiești – concerts, multimedia shows, street artists.
Jazz under the Chestnuts: jazz festival. Concerts by local and international jazz bands, music workshops, pop-up concerts in various areas of the city.
Artown: weekend dedicated to the start of the largest mural painting festival in the country – workshops, DJs, street painting competitions.
