Chopin and Dvořák at the Ploiești Philharmonic, Thursday

On Thursday, 30 April 2026, the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic of Ploiești invites you to an exceptional symphonic concert, bringing to the fore two masterpieces of the Romantic repertoire. Although they were written by different composers, more than six decades apart, both works were created in similar contexts, marked by feelings of longing and love for the homeland.

We invite you to travel to the Warsaw of Chopin’s youth and to the Bohemia to which Dvořák was so attached, through a remarkable musical programme, in which each page opens a unique sonic world, shaped with refinement and great passion.

In the first part of the evening you will be able to listen to Concerto No. 1 in E minor for piano and orchestra, Op. 11 by Frédéric Chopin, composed in 1830, just before he definitively left Poland. The score is regarded as a true farewell concerto, written by a young man of 20 setting off into the unknown, carrying within his soul the entire identity of his people.

In counterpart, the Concerto for cello and orchestra, Op. 104 by Antonín Dvořák was written in the composer’s last year spent in the United States of America (1894–1895) and “sings” of an all-consuming homesickness, the nostalgia and the desire to return to his native Bohemia, transforming the score into a vast and warm discourse.

At the helm of the Ploiești Symphony Orchestra will be maestro Tiberiu Soare, while the soloists of the two works will be pianist Izabela Voropciuc and cellist Jan Sekaci.

An exceptional evening is anticipated, with two concertos considered landmarks of the soloist repertoire, showcasing the expressiveness and virtuosity of the performers.
